Always Surprised

One of the things that amazes me about creating botanical art is how subjects will, at times, appear almost out of nowhere. While traveling in Canada last summer, my wife and I were served breakfast and the meal came with a garnish of what I referred to as Golden Berry. The specimen is also called Cape gooseberry, or physalis, and is a member of the family Salanaceae. I was fascinated by the contrast between the smooth, shiny, orange-colored berry and their protective papery calyx green-hued husk. If you are unfamiliar with this fruit, Google it and see if you are amazed with it too.
